The Ruins of Kel Voreth

Here are a couple of panoramas from one of WildStars’s first dungeon – The Ruins of Kel Voreth. It was hard, it was fun and it took about 3 hours as no one had been in there before!  Included a bonus levelling shot as well.

WildStar in Panorama!

As promised, here are a few panoramas from the first 16 Dominion levels in WildStar:

WildStar panoramas incoming, cupcake!

The long lost home planet of the Eldan, Nexus, has been found at last.  It’s time to man-up, woman-up or just get-up and move your lazy-arse to Nexus and join the fight!

I have started playing WildStar and so far, have enjoyed the 16 levels of content my Chua Spellslinger has experienced.  The game is the most polished MMO launch I have experienced and I am enjoying the difficultly and lack of complete hand-holding the game serves up.

As a way of attempting to document my journey through Nexus, I am going to continue taking and posting panoramic screenshots, as I did the last few years in World of Warcraft.  Here is a taste of what is to come:

Riot in the Void

Riot in the Void: Level 15 Adventure

I don’t set out to only capture the very best views (although I hope I find those along the way), but I also try and grab anything that I think is interesting.  I picked the explorer path hoping to take advantage of the additional vantage points exploring provides and so far it seems to be paying dividends.  Look out for more posts and panoramas over the next few months and then lets see where things go from there.

Feel free to add me in-game,

A Chua named Antikas, Myrcalus server, For the Dominion!

Games to look out for: August 2013 edition

Yes, it’s that time again.

I haven’t put one of these together for a while and since my last games post, every single game on that list has been released or is in open beta. Most of them turned out to be pretty good too.

My gaming tastes are not restricted to just MMOs, so I enjoy a good FPS, RTS, RPG, MOBA, puzzler, etc. So with that in mind,  here is my current list of games to try or keep an eye on. Some are obvious, others maybe a little less so:

This is the new trailer fresh out of Gamescon in Germany and it is awesome.  I think this will be a blast in MP and is certainly one to put on the shortlist.

Battlefield 4

and just because it is amazing, here is another:

What I think I love most about what we can see in these videos is the environment. Things change. They shift the nature of the battle which in turn keeps you on your toes.  Skyscrapers collapse and hurricanes beach warships. Those are pretty big events and I can’t think of a game that has attempted something on that sort of scale in a multiplayer setting before.  I’m pretty excited about playing this.

Everquest Next

I couldn’t find a nice video set to a game soundtrack but the above two give you an idea of what we will hopefully see in game at launch.  There is a lot of promise here and if delivered on would be nothing short of amazing.  Having never played an Everquest game, I would be pretty keen to sink my teeth into this one.

I have touched on this one before (back in August of 2011!), but there is now so much more to see!  Closed beta has started so things shouldn’t be too far away now.  A few old WoW friends have said that this is looking like their next big MMO and it’s easy to see why.  Wildstar looks polished, provides some innovations (such as paths) and is not fantasy.

Carbine also recently outlined their business model for Wildstar and it is noteworthy enough to mention here.  Basically there are two options: 1. you can pay a monthly subscription or 2. you can use in-game currency to buy game time units (C.R.E.D.D) from other players who have purchased these units from the Wildstar store.  The game comes with a free month, so theoretically you may only have to purchase the original box to play indefinitely.

I would advise you to keep a close eye on this one.

Online TCGs

Might and Magic: Duel of Champions

The above video is gamplay from a final match in the recent world champs.  I play this one and quite enjoy it.  The gameplay uses the new lane mechanic well and doing away with having to worry about a spell resource is fantastic, instead you get an amount that increases by one each turn.

Best of all, this game is free-to-play and whilst getting cards can be a little slow and the in-game store is expensive (and in Euros), it is not so terrible that you feel you will be restricted for too long.

This is the one and only product I have ever kickstarted.  I jumped in at the $35 reward tier and am really looking forward to release.  Over the years I have played a few TCGs (namely Magic: The Gathering and the World of Warcraft TCG) so seeing some of gameplay elements that Crytozoic are adding to the genre is exciting.

Well, that should be enough for now.  I hope there is something in there that piques your interest.  Do you know of any others that people should be aware of?

MMO update

N.B: another Firefall vid, a 2nd Secret World trailer and some Wildstar alpha gameplay footage added!

So now that PAX and Gamescom are done and dusted, its time for a very quick review of some of the MMOs that I have been keeping tabs on.

If you remember from my previous post on this (if you never saw that one find it here) I was tracking games like Guild Wars 2, Firefall, The Secret World and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

This post will give you a bit more of a taste of a couple of those as well as introduce a newly announced MMO that I would encourage you to have a look at: Wildstar.

Here’s a few promo vids to tickle your tastebuds:

This game is being developed by a new group called Carbine Studios, staffed with a bunch of MMO developers from around the industry and has a heavy fan influence.  Features such as double jump and limited sprint have all been incorporated at fans’ request.  With quest text limited to 140 characters ala Twitter, this is one to look out for if you are not a heavy quest text (read lore) driven MMOer.  Note the gameplay footage is reported to be at an alpha release stage.

The Secret World

I have already signed up for the Beta – check out their website for further info.  P.S. I am going Templar!

OK, I am genuinely excited about this one.  Created by some former Blizzard employees, I think the art direction looks great, and some of the gameplay elements (Tribes baby!) look fantastic.  Oh, did I mention it’s Free-to-Play?

Guild Wars 2

This one shows some of the character creation, early questing and one of the Dragon Champion boss fights; Tequatl the Sunless.

I am a little less excited about SWOTR now that it isn’t being released here in Australia at launch.  Will revisit it once we have a confirmed release date over here.

Till next time,
